I was fortunate enough to get an interview with Randy Couture following his weekend at the San Diego 2008 Comic Con where he was promoting his new exclusive EE Round 5 figure.
I got to ask him some questions regarding his new figure including confirmation on the fourth Series 2 figure.
Enjoy!
MMA Action Figures: First off, what does it feel like to have your own action figure?
Randy Couture: Like a lot of things going on in my life right now it is a little surreal to have an action figure on the market and book in the top 20. like the first time I drove out to AC and saw my mug on a billboard there’s something weird about it.
MMA Action Figures: Were you into action figures as a kid, and if so what were you favorites?
Randy Couture: I was into some action figures. Like every kid I had some GI Joes. I had some Western Action figures with Geronamo and cowboys and Indians all moveable action figures.
MMA Action Figures: How were you involved in the process of making the figures?
Randy Couture: I got to pick or approve the colors and the pose and basically kind of give final approval on the artwork that came back for the prototype.
MMA Action Figures: I know you were at Comic Con this past weekend in San Diego promoting the figures. What was that like? Was it the first Comic Con you have been to?
Randy Couture: My first Comic Con. It was a little overwhelming. A 130,000 people are a lot of people. I bought a turn of the century German movie poster when I was there. It was a movie poster of the first movie with sound in Germany about a tiger hunt.
MMA Action Figures: I know that Series 2 of Round 5’s MMA figures include Rich Franklin, Sean Sherk, and Anderson Silva. Can you tell us who the fourth figure is going to be….come on? If not can you give us a hint?
Randy Couture: The fourth action figure in Series 2 is Wanderlei Silva.
MMA Action Figures: You seem to have a knack for calling fights, main events in particular. Who is going to win GSP vs Fitch at UFC 87?
Randy Couture: I like St-Pierre in that fight. I think Fitch is great. His wrestling is really good but I don’t see anyone keeping up with Georges right now.
MMA Action Figures: Affliction’s first event seemed to have went pretty well.
What did you think about it?
Randy Couture: I thought it was a great first outing. We haven’t seen that many quality heavyweights on one card since the old Pride Grand Prix’s.
MMA Action Figures: I know things are “xtremely” busy right now with your book tour and movie. How often do you get to train with all of that going on?
Randy Couture: Training has been a little sketchy the last couple of months but I squeeze it in where I can.
MMA Action Figures: How do you like acting? is that something you would like to pursue more in the future?
Randy Couture: I’m enjoying the roles I’m getting to play now. I hope to continue down that road.
MMA Action Figures: I saved the best for last of course. How many fights are left in “The Natural” and when are we going to have the pleasure of seeing you fight again?
Randy Couture: I’ll take it one fight at a time and a lot of that depends on the UFC at this point.
